Thank you for your interest in teaching a course for the OLLI at UK, Lexington.  In the write up of your proposal, please address the following elements:

Semester you are proposing to teach:  Summer 2016


1.     Suggest a title that will: a) Describe the content of the course, and  
b) Create interest among potential students. Navigating Computers for OLLI Users

2.               Recommend the catalog category that best matches your content.  Computers/technology
(Course offerings are listed in the OLLI semester catalog under the following categories: Computers/technology, Culture, Health and Wellness, History and Government, Languages, Literature & Writing, Out of the Box, Performing Arts, Science and Environment, Visual Arts.)

3.               List your course objectives: To Knock Off Computer-phobia

4.               Describe the content of your course: Everything you wanted to ask about computers but were afraid to ask!

5.               Create a general course outline, including content covered in each session: Session I -- Overview and Survey the Class for the above questions, Session II -- Computers are made to be your friend, Session III --User Goals, Session IV -- Wrap-up, What have we learned?

6.               List the number of individual class sessions you are proposing: 4 Sessions

7.               Length of each class session: 2 hours

8.               Preferred maximum enrollment: 20

9.               List the teaching methods you will use:  (lecture, workshop, discussion, ppt., handouts, etc.)   Lecture, Discussion, Q & A, Powerpoint, Internet, Worldwide Web

10.           List the major sources of materials / supplies used to create this course: Professional Experience, Personal Experience, Libraries, Internet

11.           List any location requirements or preferences, include the following:  
a.               Audio/Visual or other technology -- Digital Projector and Screen
b.              White board/Chalk Board/Flip Chart & Markers -- One or more of these
c.               Room Set up:  Classroom (tables and chairs),  Theatre (chairs only), other -- Classroom

12.           List any specific knowledge or skills students will be expected to have:
(i.e. for an adv. language, computer, art class, or other.  Important for students to know in advance) -- A desire to learn about computers

13.           List any books or supplies the students will need to purchase: Some sort of Non-expert Guide to the Internet and Worldwide Web

a.               Your experience and/or education (formal/informal); 11 years fulltime Computer Science Professor, 19 years College Adjunct Instructor, 17 years CIO for a reinsurance company
b.              Research and Preparation completed related to the topic area; and BA in English, UK; BS Computer Science, KSU, MA Computer Resources Management, Webster U; Nearly completed course work for a PhD in Software Engineering, UK
